“Beer is proof that God is real and wants us to be happy” – Benjamin Franklin
Stellwagen Beer Company
Stellwagen Beer Company, which opened its doors in the summer of 2018, has been raising the bar and challenging conventional assumptions in the craft beer industry. Owners Mike and Dave Snowdale, originally of Cohasset, Massachusetts, wanted to create and operate a brewery in their community that not only was close to home and the coast, but also celebrated one of the area’s most famous marine and whale sanctuaries: Stellwagen Bank.
Local Community Partners
The Snowdales have always been actively involved in the south shore community, its history, and its beauty – always looking to make a positive impact. They actively come up with unique and witty names for their unique craft brews – some taking after historical landmarks, local natural resources, and famous residents of the town (Steve Carrell and Steven Tyler!) in an effort to keep the local stories, history, and appreciation for our natural resources alive. Whenever possible, they promote local food trucks, mom-and-pop restaurants, local musicians, artisans, and yoga and dog lovers alike. They also do their part in the farm-to-table movement: after a beer is brewed, the spent grain is then shipped off to local farmers who then use the by-product to feed their livestock. Moreover, whenever possible, Stellwagen purchases grain and hops in the New England region to support the overall local industry.
Coastal Villages IPA Collab
The Foodies South Shore and Stellwagen collaboration is in ode to the beautiful coastal villages here on the south shore. When you enter the region of the south shore coastal villages, life starts to slow down a bit. You’ll inevitably be in the midst of historical general stores, quaint, seaside cottages laden with lobster buoys, see beautiful beaches, and will likely witness a fishermen casting a rod in the middle of February.
We tried to capture that uniqueness and tradition with a classic New England style IPA – just the right amount of haze and pineapple juiciness due to a generous amount of hop additions, to remind you of those summer days on the beach by the coast.
Stellwagen Beer Co. is located in Marshfield, which has been and always will be, a town of tight-knit, quaint coastal villages. This IPA gives ode to our great hometown of Marshfield, specifically the seaside village residents that have supported and continue to support our local businesses, community, and lifestyle, down by the coast.
More broadly, as is often coined when a community seeks a common goal, it is said to “take a village” – in this case, the coastal villages of the south shore: deeply historical, full of beautiful, natural resources, and the most supportive, community-oriented, dedicated citizenry this region has ever seen.
We hope to see all of you at Vine Bar in Scituate on 1/25 at 6pm to give Coastal Villages the proper celebration!
