Lobstermen of Green Harbor: An Age Old Tradition

“Seas the day and order the lobster” - Anonymous

Today, on a hot, clear-blue sky day in Green Harbor, we boarded the Fishing Vessel (FV) Margie, and took a look, although briefly, on the life of a 4th generation Commerrcial Lobsterman.

Vinnie and Dan reviewing the day’s catch

As mentioned above, Dan Herb is a 4th generation Green Harbor Commercial Lobsterman, and co-founder of The Seabox, (IG: @theseaboxdelivery) bringing fresh seafood daily to consumer’s doorsteps. With Dan’s day job as a full-time lobsterman, The Seabox plans to eventually roll-out the freshest lobster delivery service the south shore has ever experienced. So, if you’re planning a weekend part or just want a few fresh lobsters, order online here: The Seabox. If you need the lobsters as soon as possible, go down and see Paul Philpott’s down at the Green Harbor Lobster Pound.

We left Green Harbor, we motored for a bit enjoying the picture-perfect day until we reached one of the buoy’s and hauled some traps to see if we were in luck. We hauled several traps, got several lobsters, a Jonah Crab, and re-baited all of the traps. Dan could tell I was inspired, and he stated that: “It is so important to keep this age-old tradition (of sustainable lobstering) going by supporting the commercial fishery and thus local economy, and ensuring residents have access to fresh seafood year-round.”

Lobstering!

Dan and Vinnie’s work ethic was inspiring, and I had a great time and can’t wait to go back out on the water, which they mentioned often, was “their office.”

If you’re down in Green Harbor, make sure to say hello to Dan, Fishing Vessel Margie! Also, check out The Seabox and subscribe to order fresh seafood right to your door!
