This Deep Dish Cast Iron Skillet recipe is great for Sunday football, or a cold, raw rainy day inside with the family. It is simple, hearty, and filling, and great for kids as they can contribute in a meaningful way to the process.
The pizza essentially becomes a pie, and there is a lot of dough, so make sure you use enough tomato sauce so you are not making more a ciabatta bread (dough and cheese). If you like a sauce that becomes more sweet, when you are proofing the dough, spread some fresh local honey on to the dough.
Then 425 for 25 minutes, set it and forget it – enjoy!
Cast Iron Skillet Pizza
Equipment
- Lodge Deep Dish Cast Iron Skillet
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 tbsp Organic Honey
- 5-10 tbsp Tomato or Pizza Sauce (Any Type)
- Mozzarella Cheese and Itialian Cheese (Cabot)
- Parmesean Cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Grab a Lodge Deep Dish Cast Iron Skillet and place pizza dough inside it with a bit of extra virgin olive oil and some local honey or Mike's Hot Honey if you want a little kick. Use a spoon to spread them evenly over the dough. Let the dough proof (activate yeast) for at least two hours (the more time you have, the better)1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1 tbsp Organic Honey
- Once the dough has proofed and is bubbly and delicate, spread tomato or any type of pizza sauce evenly over the dough with the back of a spoon.5-10 tbsp Tomato or Pizza Sauce (Any Type)
- Add mozzarella cheese, parmesan, and any other cheeses or toppings. If you have real parmesan cheese, use it – I had the store brand, so I used that (plus, it reminds me of old-school pizza joints that make an incredible pie).Mozzarella Cheese and Itialian Cheese (Cabot), Parmesean Cheese
- Place it in the oven for 25 minutes, checking the top of the cheese for doneness at the 20 minute mark. Cheese should be golden brown.
- Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
- After 5 minutes, using a spatula carefully remove the pizza from the pan and onto a baking sheet.
- Serve and enjoy!
